Dr. Hassan Abbasi Leads Tanzanian Delegation in High-Level Talks on Tourism Technology, Investment and Skills Development

Tanzania has continued to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations after senior government officials participated in a major international tourism conference organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) aboard the luxury cruise ship Crystal Serenity sailing from Sokhna Port to the historic city of Alexandria in Egypt.

The Tanzanian delegation was led by Dr Hassan Abbasi, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, who represented Tanzania in discussions that brought together global tourism leaders, investors, policymakers and international tourism stakeholders under the WTTC platform.

The conference served as an important international forum to discuss the future of global tourism, investment opportunities, sustainability, digital transformation and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening tourism economies across the world.

Tanzania Positions Itself for Tourism Technology and Investment Growth

During the high-level meetings, Dr. Abbasi held strategic discussions with Gloria Guevara, President and Chief Executive Officer of WTTC and former Minister of Tourism of Mexico, together with Najib Balala, Vice Chairman of WTTC and former Tourism Minister of Kenya.

The discussions focused on how WTTC can collaborate with Tanzania to accelerate the growth of the tourism sector through:

  • Tourism technology and digital transformation
  • International tourism investment partnerships
  • Capacity building and professional training
  • Sustainable tourism development
  • Promotion of Tanzania in global tourism markets
  • Innovation in tourism services and experiences

The leaders recognized Tanzania’s growing importance in African tourism and acknowledged ongoing efforts by the government to modernize tourism infrastructure, improve destination marketing and attract international investors into the sector.

Tanzania’s Tourism Transformation Gains International Attention

Tanzania has recently intensified efforts to position itself as a competitive global tourism destination by investing in digital tourism platforms, transport infrastructure, conservation tourism and high-end hospitality services.

The country continues to gain international recognition through iconic destinations including Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Mount Kilimanjaro, Nyerere National Park and the beaches and heritage sites of Zanzibar.

Through collaboration with global tourism institutions such as WTTC, Tanzania aims to expand tourism contributions to employment, foreign exchange earnings and economic growth while ensuring sustainability and conservation remain key priorities.

Ambassador Makanzo Joins Strategic Tourism Diplomacy Discussions

The meeting was also attended by Richard M. Makanzo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Egypt, whose participation further strengthened diplomatic and tourism cooperation between Tanzania and Egypt.

Tourism stakeholders believe such engagements provide Tanzania with opportunities to build stronger international partnerships, attract new investors and increase the country’s visibility within the global tourism and travel industry.

WTTC Conference Highlights Future of Global Tourism

The WTTC international gathering aboard the Crystal Serenity brought together tourism executives, policymakers and stakeholders from different countries to discuss emerging trends shaping the tourism sector globally.

Key areas discussed during the conference included:

  • Smart tourism technologies
  • Artificial intelligence in tourism
  • Sustainable travel
  • Cruise tourism opportunities
  • Tourism resilience
  • Youth skills development
  • Climate-conscious tourism investment

For Tanzania, participation in such global forums demonstrates the country’s commitment to embracing innovation and international cooperation as part of its long-term tourism growth strategy.

Tanzania Continues Expanding Tourism Opportunities

As global tourism rebounds strongly, Tanzania is increasingly positioning itself as a destination not only for wildlife safaris and mountain adventures, but also for cultural tourism, cruise tourism, investment tourism and digital travel experiences.

The government’s participation in international tourism forums is expected to create more opportunities for:

  • Tour operators
  • Hospitality investors
  • Travel technology companies
  • Airlines
  • Conservation institutions
  • Local tourism entrepreneurs

The discussions with WTTC leadership are also expected to open new pathways for tourism training programs, international partnerships and strategic investments that can support Tanzania’s vision of becoming a leading tourism hub in Africa.
