ZANZIBAR: Tanzania has strengthened its position as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations after attractions and tourism institutions across the country secured seven prestigious honours at the World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony 2026.
The recognition, announced on August 28, 2026, in Zanzibar, places Tanzania among the continent’s most recognised tourism destinations, highlighting the country’s strength in wildlife, beaches, mountain tourism, cultural experiences, festivals and destination management.
The awards were shared between Tanzania’s mainland national parks and Zanzibar, demonstrating the diversity of the country’s tourism offering.
Tanzania’s National Parks Earn Five Honours
On the mainland, Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) secured five major awards across different categories.
Serengeti National Park was among the biggest winners, taking two titles: Africa’s Leading National Park 2026 and Africa’s Leading Big Five National Park 2026.
The recognition further highlights Serengeti’s international appeal, particularly its exceptional wildlife experiences and the annual Great Migration, which continues to attract travellers from across the world.
Kilimanjaro National Park was named Africa’s Leading Mountain National Park 2026, strengthening Mount Kilimanjaro’s reputation as one of Africa’s most iconic adventure tourism destinations.
Meanwhile, Tarangire National Park received the title of Africa’s Leading Elephant Paradise National Park 2026, while Nyerere National Park was recognised as Africa’s Leading Scenic National Park 2026.
Ruaha National Park completed the mainland’s list of winners after being named Africa’s Leading Cultural National Park 2026.
Together, the awards showcase the variety of experiences available across Tanzania’s national parks, from wildlife and spectacular landscapes to mountain adventures and cultural encounters.
