Tanzania has once again proven its position as one of Africa’s most desired travel destinations, ranking among the top countries international travellers most want to visit, according to a recent survey infographic released by the African Travel & Tourism Association.
The survey, titled “Which Countries in Africa do Travellers Most Want to Visit?”, highlights the continent’s most sought-after destinations, with South Africa leading at 24%, followed closely by Kenya at 21%, and Tanzania securing an impressive 19%, placing it among Africa’s top three preferred destinations.

Tanzania’s Growing Global Appeal
Tanzania’s strong ranking reflects the country’s diverse and world-class tourism offerings. From the vast plains of the Serengeti National Park and the breathtaking wildlife spectacle of the Great Migration, to the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, Tanzania continues to capture the imagination of travellers worldwide.
The country also boasts the pristine beaches and cultural richness of Zanzibar, the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and lesser-known gems such as Ruaha National Park, Nyerere National Park, and Mikumi National Park.
This recognition further supports Tanzania’s growing reputation as a destination offering a complete “Bush to Beach” experience—combining thrilling safari adventures, mountain trekking, marine tourism, and rich cultural heritage.
East Africa Dominates Travel Interest
The survey also reveals the strength of East Africa as a tourism powerhouse. Alongside Tanzania’s 19%, neighbouring Kenya scored 21%, while Uganda and Rwanda each received 2%.
This trend signals increasing global interest in East Africa’s iconic wildlife circuits, luxury lodges, authentic cultural encounters, and adventure tourism opportunities.
Southern Africa Remains Strong
Southern African destinations also performed strongly, with South Africa leading the continent at 24%, followed by Botswana at 12%, and Namibia and Zimbabwe each at 3%.
Island destinations such as Mauritius (2%), Madagascar (2%), and Seychelles (4%) also continue to attract significant interest among global travellers.
