DAR ES SALAAM, March 3, 2026
Tanzania has joined the global community in commemorating World Wildlife Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the vital role wildlife plays in social, economic, and environmental development.
The national celebration highlighted the importance of conserving wildlife resources, including the growing recognition of medicinal plants as part of Tanzania’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Speaking during the event, the Director General of the Tanzania Tourism Board, Ephraim Mafuru, emphasized that wildlife remains central to the country’s development and international image.
“Wildlife is the backbone of our tourism sector. It provides jobs and income for thousands of citizens. It is a source of pride that showcases our country internationally,” he said.
Tanzania is home to world-renowned conservation areas such as Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, which attract visitors from around the world and significantly contribute to the national economy.
World Wildlife Day serves as a reminder of the need for sustainable management of natural resources to ensure that future generations continue to benefit from Tanzania’s exceptional biodiversity. Authorities reiterated their commitment to conservation efforts, community involvement, and responsible tourism practices.
The 2026 commemoration also promoted awareness of the link between wildlife conservation, traditional knowledge, and environmental sustainability — reinforcing Tanzania’s position as a global leader in wildlife tourism and natural heritage protection.
