Brussels Airlines has announced a major expansion of its long-haul network with the launch of direct flights between Brussels, Belgium and Kilimanjaro International Airport, strengthening air connectivity to Tanzania, United Republic of and enhancing access to its world-famous safari and adventure destinations.
The new service is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2026, with twice-weekly flights operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This marks an important addition to Brussels Airlines’ African network, increasing its sub-Saharan destinations to 18 and becoming the carrier’s fifth direct route in East Africa, joining Entebbe (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda), Bujumbura (Burundi) and Nairobi (Kenya).
The direct link will provide European travellers with convenient access to Kilimanjaro as a gateway into Tanzania’s northern safari circuit, including world-renowned destinations such as Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Tourism officials say the route is expected to support growth in safari and adventure tourism from the European market and improve business ties between Europe and East Africa.
Flights will be operated using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, offering Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, and bookings are now open. This initiative reflects increased airline interest in Tanzania as a long-haul travel destination, complementing growing demand for safari, cultural and beach experiences.
Tourism stakeholders highlight that improved connectivity will help boost visitor numbers, particularly during peak safari seasons and for Kilimanjaro trekking expeditions, while providing Tanzania with broader exposure in key European markets.
