ARUSHA, TANZANIA — Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening tourism professionalism following high-level recognition of the Safari Field Challenge, a flagship initiative shaping the next generation of world-class tour guides.
Speaking during a visit to participants at the iconic Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Ndutu area), the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji, praised the initiative for its tangible contribution to improving service quality, conservation awareness, and Tanzania’s global tourism competitiveness.
Elevating Tanzania’s Tourism Excellence
The Minister emphasized that the Safari Field Challenge aligns closely with national efforts led by Samia Suluhu Hassan to position Tanzania as a premier global destination. These efforts have been amplified through strategic campaigns such as the internationally acclaimed tourism film The Royal Tour, which has significantly boosted the country’s visibility across key source markets.
“This initiative reflects the spirit of innovation and professionalism we want to see across Tanzania’s tourism sector. I commend the organizers and participants for sustaining this impactful platform,” the Minister noted.
Now in its 11th edition, the Safari Field Challenge has become a benchmark program for skills development in the safari guiding industry, equipping participants with practical knowledge in wildlife interpretation, customer experience, safety, and environmental stewardship.

In her remarks, the Minister also called for greater innovation within the sector, urging stakeholders to actively promote emerging attractions that diversify Tanzania’s tourism offering.
Among the highlighted developments is a new golf tourism product within the Serengeti National Park ecosystem, aimed at attracting high-value travelers and expanding niche tourism segments. This initiative complements Tanzania’s broader strategy to move beyond traditional wildlife safaris by introducing unique, experience-driven products.
