SERENGETI ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES TO ENHANCE TOURISM SERVICES AND VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania – July 11, 2026 — Tanzania is continuing to strengthen its position as one of the world's leading safari destinations through major road infrastructure improvements inside Serengeti National Park, aimed at enhancing visitor access, improving tourism services, and supporting conservation operations.
The ongoing rehabilitation of the Naabi–Golini–Seronera and Ndabaka–Seronera road corridors is expected to significantly improve transportation within the park, making travel safer, more comfortable, and more efficient for tourists, tour operators, park staff, and other road users.
The progress of the projects was inspected on July 11, 2026, by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji, during her working visit to the park.

Investing in Better Access to Africa's Premier Safari Destination
During the inspection, Dr. Kijaji commended the management of Tanzania National Parks Authority and the Serengeti National Park team for the progress achieved and emphasized the importance of completing the road upgrades on schedule.
She noted that modern and reliable infrastructure is essential to maintaining Tanzania's competitiveness in the global tourism market.
Improved roads will:
- Enhance visitor comfort during game drives.
- Reduce travel times between key tourism zones.
- Improve safety for tourists and tour operators.
- Facilitate conservation and park management activities.
- Support year-round accessibility across the park.

Tourists Praise Serengeti's Unique Wildlife Experience
While touring the park, the Minister also met international visitors who shared positive feedback about their safari experiences in Serengeti.
Many tourists highlighted the park's exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly the world-famous Great Migration, one of nature's most spectacular events, during which millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing.
The migration continues to attract photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, filmmakers, and adventure travelers from every corner of the globe, reinforcing Serengeti's reputation as one of Africa's most iconic safari destinations.

Strengthening Conservation Alongside Tourism Development
The newly appointed Commissioner for Conservation of TANAPA, Massana G. Mwishawa, said the authority is implementing a range of initiatives to strengthen conservation while continuously improving tourism infrastructure and visitor services.
He emphasized that protecting Serengeti's unique ecosystem remains TANAPA's top priority, with infrastructure investments designed to support sustainable tourism without compromising the park's outstanding natural heritage.
The ongoing improvements form part of Tanzania's long-term strategy to ensure that Serengeti remains among the world's leading wildlife destinations.

Growing Tourist Arrivals Reflect Improved Services
According to Serengeti National Park Chief Warden, Assistant Commissioner for Conservation Ismail Ismail, the current tourism season has experienced an encouraging increase in visitor numbers.
He attributed the growth to continuous investments in park services, improved visitor facilities, and enhanced infrastructure that allow tourists to enjoy safer, smoother, and more memorable safari experiences.
The road rehabilitation project is expected to further improve mobility throughout the park while supporting emergency response, conservation patrols, and tourism operations.

Supporting Tanzania's Tourism Vision
As one of Africa's most celebrated protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Serengeti National Park remains at the heart of Tanzania's tourism economy.
Continued investment in infrastructure demonstrates the government's commitment to ensuring that visitors enjoy world-class safari experiences while preserving the park's extraordinary biodiversity for future generations.
