Arusha Reaps Big from Conference Tourism as City Positions for Global Events
The city of Arusha is cashing in big on conference tourism, transforming meetings and conventions into major economic and social wins for locals.

Speaking at the 110th National Public Education Stakeholders Conference at the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Hall, Regional Commissioner Amos Makala hailed the city’s rise as a top destination for events, highlighting tangible benefits from high-profile visits, including Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba.
“Arusha is safe, vibrant, and thriving from conference tourism. We are committed to fast-tracking development projects and addressing citizens’ concerns,” said RC Makala. He also confirmed the city is ready to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference, further cementing its status as a premier meeting hub.

The conference, attended by over 250 participants, focused on equipping attendees with essential skills in communication, AI applications, stress management, data privacy, and strategic conflict resolution. RC Makala emphasized that public education is crucial in tackling social challenges like gender-based violence, land disputes, and family conflicts, while fueling national development.

Arusha’s strategy proves that when infrastructure, safety, and government backing align, conference tourism can be a powerhouse for growth – and the city is leading the charge.
