The Machame Route, famously known as the “Whiskey Route,” is one of the most popular and scenic routes on Mount Kilimanjaro.
It is slightly more challenging than Marangu, making it ideal for adventurous hikers seeking dramatic landscapes and a rewarding trekking experience.
Machame is known for its excellent acclimatization profile, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle, which significantly improves summit success rates. The route passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones — offering breathtaking scenery at every stage.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to Gold Crest Hotel in Arusha.
In the evening, your mountain guide will conduct a detailed climb briefing and equipment check.

Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (2,835m)

Drive to Machame Gate for registration. The trail ascends through lush rainforest filled with birdlife and colobus monkeys.

The trail climbs steeply out of the forest into heath and moorland. You will enjoy spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau.

A steady ascent to Barafu Camp. After lunch, your guide will provide a summit briefing. Early dinner and rest before the midnight ascent.

Day 6: Barafu (4,673m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Habitat: Arctic → Alpine Desert → Moorland
Summit attempt begins around midnight. Climb slowly to Stella Point (5,756m), then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating at the summit, descend to Barafu for lunch and continue to Mweka Camp.
This is the longest and most demanding day of the trek.
Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Arusha
