Tanzania Expands Global Tourism Promotion Through International Sports Icons
Tanzania has continued strengthening its global tourism profile through sports tourism after world boxing champion Terence Crawford was officially appointed as a tourism ambassador during his visit to the country’s world-famous Serengeti National Park.
The appointment ceremony took place on May 28, 2026, during Crawford’s fifth day in Tanzania, where he met with Ashatu Kijaji inside Serengeti National Park.
The internationally celebrated boxing star, popularly known as “Bud” Crawford, is visiting Tanzania as part of efforts to promote the country’s tourism attractions through sports and celebrity influence.
Tanzania Uses Sports Tourism to Reach Global Audiences
Speaking during the event, Minister Kijaji said Tanzania continues expanding its international tourism campaigns under the leadership of Samia Suluhu Hassan through strategic initiatives designed to position the country among Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
She highlighted successful global campaigns including the tourism films Tanzania: The Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania, which have helped attract international visitors, investors, and global personalities to experience the country’s natural attractions.
According to the minister, sports tourism has become one of the fastest-growing tools for connecting Tanzania with international audiences while creating opportunities for youth employment, investment, and economic growth.
“Sports continue to serve as a bridge connecting Tanzania with globally recognized personalities while opening new opportunities for tourism promotion, investment, and youth development,” she noted.
Serengeti Continues Attracting Global Celebrities
During the visit, Crawford received an official tourism ambassador certificate recognizing his role in promoting Tanzania’s tourism attractions internationally.
The boxing champion praised the hospitality of Tanzanians and expressed admiration for the country’s spectacular wildlife experiences after visiting both Tarangire National Park and Serengeti National Park since arriving in Tanzania on May 24, 2026.
Crawford pledged to become a strong ambassador for Tanzania’s tourism industry by sharing his experiences with international audiences and encouraging travelers to visit the country.

While in Serengeti, Crawford is expected to participate in several premium tourism experiences including hot air balloon safaris, game drives, and night tourism activities.
