As Tanzania prepares to co-host the prestigious 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has begun strategic preparations aimed at showcasing the country’s world-renowned tourism attractions to football fans and international visitors.

On April 27, 2026, the authority launched a specialized two-day customer service training program for 32 employees drawn from various departments, with the goal of enhancing service delivery and ensuring visitors receive world-class hospitality when visiting the iconic Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The initiative reflects Tanzania’s broader strategy to leverage AFCON 2027 as a platform to market its tourism sector globally while increasing visitor arrivals from participating nations across Africa and beyond.

NCAA Strengthens Service Standards Ahead of AFCON 2027

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the training, Senior Assistant Commissioner in charge of Tourism and Marketing Services, Mariam Kobelo, emphasized the importance of equipping every employee with tourism-focused customer care skills.

She said the training is designed to ensure that all staff members understand their role in delivering international-standard services and creating memorable experiences for tourists visiting Ngorongoro.

“In 2027 we will host AFCON, and here at Ngorongoro we have started preparing ourselves by ensuring that every service we offer to visitors meets international standards. We also want to use the opportunity of the tournament to welcome many tourists and serve them excellently, so that when they return home, they continue to be ambassadors of Tanzania,” she said.

Her remarks underline the growing recognition that major sporting events such as AFCON can significantly contribute to tourism growth, foreign exchange earnings, and international destination branding.

National College of Tourism Leads Training

The two-day training is being conducted by experts from the National College of Tourism under the coordination of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.

The sessions focus on:

  • Professional customer care and hospitality
  • International visitor handling and etiquette
  • Destination knowledge and promotion
  • Effective communication and problem-solving
  • Enhancing visitor satisfaction and retention

By improving these skills, NCAA aims to ensure that tourists visiting Ngorongoro during and after AFCON 2027 experience exceptional service that matches the area’s global reputation.

Ngorongoro Positioned as a Key Attraction During AFCON

The Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders, remains one of Tanzania’s most visited tourist destinations.

As thousands of football fans are expected to travel across East Africa during AFCON 2027, destinations such as Ngorongoro, Serengeti National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro are expected to benefit from increased visibility and tourist traffic.

Tourism stakeholders are increasingly aligning their services, products, and infrastructure to capture this opportunity by promoting safari packages, cultural tourism, and beach holidays alongside football tourism.

Tanzania’s Tourism Sector Eyes Global Spotlight

Tanzania’s co-hosting of AFCON 2027 alongside neighboring East African nations presents a unique opportunity to strengthen the country’s image as a premier tourism destination.

With institutions like NCAA already taking proactive measures, the country is positioning itself to maximize the economic and promotional benefits of the continental football tournament.

The move demonstrates that Tanzania is not only preparing stadiums and logistics for AFCON—but also preparing its people to deliver unforgettable experiences.
