ZANZIBAR: The Karibu Kizimkazi Festival 2026 is set to bring together culture, tourism, entertainment, community development and investment opportunities as Zanzibar continues to position its southern region as an important destination for local and international visitors.
Held in Kizimkazi, South Unguja, from August 12–14, 2026, the festival is being celebrated under the theme “Kizimkazi Kumenoga!”, highlighting the area’s growing tourism, cultural and economic potential.
The festival has evolved from a community-based cultural celebration into a broader platform for tourism promotion, investment, cultural preservation and socio-economic development. Organisers are expecting residents, tourism stakeholders, business leaders, investors and visitors from across Tanzania and beyond to participate.
Among the highlights are cultural exhibitions, entertainment, tourism showcases and the launch of development projects intended to support the continued growth of Kizimkazi and surrounding communities. Nine development projects are expected to feature during this year's programme, including initiatives in education, water, recreation and community infrastructure.
Kizimkazi offers visitors a distinctive combination of coastal scenery, cultural heritage, community life and nature-based tourism. Its location in southern Unguja also provides an opportunity to encourage visitors to explore destinations beyond Zanzibar's traditional tourism centres.
The festival therefore provides an important platform for connecting culture and tourism with local economic opportunities, particularly for small businesses, young people, artists, tourism operators and community-based enterprises.
The participation of senior national leaders further reflects the growing importance of the festival in Zanzibar's cultural and tourism calendar, with Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi expected to officially open the event and President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan scheduled to participate in the closing ceremony.
