The Great Wildebeest Migration in Serengeti National Park is one of the most spectacular wildlife events on Earth. Every year, more than 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, travel across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing land.

The migration moves between Tanzania and Kenya, crossing rivers filled with crocodiles and open plains where predators await. Visitors travel from around the world to witness dramatic river crossings and large herds stretching across the savannah.

Best viewing periods include July to October, when animals cross the Mara River, and January to March, when calves are born in southern Serengeti.
