Dar es Salaam — Tanzania is set to strengthen its international tourism and trade connectivity after plans were unveiled for the launch of direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Moscow later this year through a strategic Tanzania–Russia aviation partnership involving the national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited.

The planned route is expected to open a new gateway for Russian travelers seeking Tanzania’s world-famous tourism attractions, including wildlife safaris, beach holidays, mountain adventures, and cultural tourism experiences.

The direct connection between Moscow and Dar es Salaam is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for tourists, investors, business delegations, and government officials traveling between the two countries.

Tourism stakeholders believe the new route will boost arrivals from the Russian market, which has shown growing interest in Tanzania’s tourism destinations such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the beaches of Zanzibar.

The move also aligns with Tanzania’s broader strategy of expanding international air connectivity to position the country as a leading global tourism and investment destination.

Industry experts say direct flights will not only stimulate tourism growth but also strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, education, agriculture, and cultural exchange between Tanzania and Russia.

The development comes as Tanzania continues investing heavily in aviation infrastructure, airport modernization, and the expansion of Air Tanzania’s international network aimed at connecting East Africa with key global markets.

For tourism operators, the Moscow route is expected to create new opportunities for charter packages, luxury safaris, beach tourism, and conference travel, while enhancing Tanzania’s competitiveness in the global tourism sector.

As Tanzania deepens its international partnerships, the new direct Moscow connection signals another milestone in the country’s ambition to become Africa’s premier travel and investment hub.
